The 2024 Intercontinental Cup started on September 22 and will run until December 18. The tournament consists of five matches, with the first two already played, and the next three will take place in Doha, Qatar. The Botafogo, champions of the Copa Libertadores, representing Brazil, will face Pachuca from Mexico on December 11. It is worth noting that this edition of the Intercontinental Cup is a new competition, replacing the former Club World Cup, which will adopt a new format in 2025.

The 2024 Intercontinental Cup is the 21st edition and the first time under this name. Compared to the old format, there have been significant adjustments. The European champion, Real Madrid, entered directly into the final, while the South American champion, Botafogo, began the competition from the quarter-finals. Additionally, the preliminary round has already been completed, with Al-Ain from the United Arab Emirates defeating Auckland City and Al-Ahly, advancing to the next stage. These changes in the qualification format for Europe and South America make the competition even more special.
