Before the match, the former midfielder commented on various topics, including the invitation he received to work at Flamengo, Arrascaeta's recommendation to take over the new number 10 jersey, and his praises for coach Felipe Luís.
Diego Ribas received an invitation to return to Flamengo
Diego Ribas began by talking about the conversation he had with the president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, regarding the possibility of taking on a role at the club. After the elections, where the current candidate, Rodrigo Dunshee, lost to Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Diego revealed that he does not rule out the chance to work with the new management in the future.
"I received the invitation. I was invited to return to Flamengo, and in the future, I will have the opportunity to work directly in football. This will happen at the right time. It doesn't matter the position, the doors of my house will always be open for anyone who wants to help Flamengo,” said Diego in the mixed zone of Maracanã.
The successor of the new number 10
In a recent interview, Arrascaeta spoke about his desire to take over the number 10 jersey of Flamengo. With the departure of Gabigol, the Uruguayan now has the chance to wear the most symbolic jersey in the club's history. Diego Ribas showed full support for the idea and hopes that Arrascaeta becomes the new owner of the number 10.
"If it were me, I would already hand the number 10 jersey to him. Even now, during the holidays. He understands and respects the values of the club. I am very happy to see him with the number 10," said the former midfielder, who also wore the number 10 jersey of Flamengo during his time at the club.
Arrascaeta: waiting for the opportunity to wear the number 10
Recently, Arrascaeta spoke about his desire to inherit the number 10 and stated that he would not address this topic while Gabigol was at the club. With Gabigol's departure, Arrascaeta's goal becomes even clearer.
"The number 10 has a great significance. I have a lot of respect and affection for Gabigol. When he was still at the club, I didn’t intend to raise this subject. Now that I know Gabigol will no longer be with us, I will wait for this opportunity (laughs)," said Arrascaeta.
