The Atlético-MG was founded on March 25, 1908, by a group of students from Belo Horizonte, and in 1914, it won the Taça Bueno Brandão, the first competition organized by the Liga Mineira de Esportes, becoming the first club in the state of Minas Gerais to lift a trophy. The following year, in 1915, the club won the Campeonato Mineiro, reinforcing its pioneering spirit.

Three and a half years later, the Atlético-MG achieved a historic victory on its tour of Europe, defeating teams like Hamburg, Schalke 04, and Anderlecht, earning the nickname "Champions of Ice."
