Shubman Gill- The Young Captain
Shubman Gill isn’t just a star – he’s the heartbeat of GT’s batting line-up. Born in Punjab, the right-handed opener announced himself as a prodigy by leading India’s U19 World Cup-winning team in 2018.
After four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders, Gill joined GT in 2022 and became an instant game-changer.

His 2023 campaign was historic: 890 runs (most in IPL that year) with four centuries, including a career-best 129.
As GT’s captain since 2024, Gill balances aggression with leadership, guiding the team to back-to-back playoffs.
“Gill’s maturity at 24 is astounding,” says commentator Harsha Bhogle. “He’s not just scoring runs – he’s defining an era for GT.”

Rashid Khan- The Afghan Spin King
Rashid Khan might not be Indian, but he’s a cornerstone of GT’s success – and a global cricket icon.
At 25, the Afghan leg-spinner has already captained his national team and become the fastest to 100 ODI wickets (58 matches).
In the IPL, he’s been a game-changer since 2017, and GT’s decision to retain him for ₹15 crore in 2022 proved pivotal.

Captain’s go-to |
His 2022 final spell (3/19) dismantled Rajasthan Royals, securing GT’s first title. Off the field, his humility shines: “I’m here to learn from Indian players,” he said in 2023. “GT feels like home.”

New Signings Making an Impact
Jos Buttler
GT’s ₹15.75 crore signing of Jos Buttler in the 2025 auction has proven transformative.
The England captain has been a revelation at No. 3, scoring 500 runs at 163.93 SR, including three fifties and a match-winning 90 against Mumbai Indians.
His aggressive strokeplay – particularly his 15 sixes – has added a new dimension to GT’s batting.
However, Buttler’s availability for the playoffs is uncertain, as he’ll leave for England’s ODI series against the West Indies after the group stage. “Buttler’s absence will be a blow,” admits GT coach Ashish Nehra, “but his impact this season has been immense.”
Mohammed Sira
Acquired for ₹12.25 crore, Mohammed Siraj has emerged as GT’s new pace spearhead.
The 31-year-old has taken 15 wickets at 33.07, including a crucial 3/43 against Chennai Super Kings.
His ability to swing the ball both ways and bowl yorkers in death overs has filled the void left by Shami.
“Playing for GT is a dream,” Siraj said after his match-winning spell in April. “The team’s culture pushes you to excel.”
Sai Sudharsan- The Rising Star
At 22, Sai Sudharsan is already a fan favorite. The left-handed batter, picked by GT in the 2022 auction, announced his arrival with a match-winning 96 against Mumbai Indians in 2023.

His ability to tackle spin and finish games has made him GT’s “middle-order anchor.”
“Sudharsan is the future of Indian cricket,” gushes former India batter VVS Laxman. “GT are lucky to have him.”

Unsung Heroes: GT’s Core Contributors
R. Sai Kishore
A ₹2 crore retention in 2025, Sai Kishore has been GT’s unsung hero.
The left-arm spinner took 14 wickets at 7.35 economy in 2023 and continued his form in 2025, including a 4/33 against Punjab Kings that earned him Player of the Match.
His control in the middle overs and occasional cameos with the bat (39* vs. DC) make him indispensable.
Wriddhiman Saha
At 40, Saha remains GT’s most reliable wicketkeeper. His 54*(39) in the 2025 final was a masterclass in composure, and his lightning stumping (e.g., dismissing Rachin Ravindra in 2025) has saved crucial runs. “Saha’s experience is irreplaceable,” says GT’s fielding coach.
Prasidh Krishna
Bought for ₹9.5 crore, Prasidh has been a revelation in 2025, taking 12 wickets at 8.12 economy with his lethal yorkers.
His 2/18 against Delhi Capitals in April was pivotal in GT’s playoff push.
Why This GT Core Matters
What sets GT apart is their blend of youth and experience.
Gill and Sudharsan represent the future, while Saha and Sai Kishore bring playoff know-how.
Rashid Khan and Buttler are the global stars, but it’s the Indian core – Siraj, Prasidh, and Sudharsan – that fuels GT’s dominance.
As GT chase their second IPL title in 2025, one thing is clear: These players aren’t just stars.
They’re the architects of a new era in Indian cricket – and their story is just beginning.
