Ribeirão Preto, SP – Botafogo-SP defeated Guarani this Wednesday (9), at the Santa Cruz Stadium, by 3 to 2, in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Série B Championship. The team from Campinas was ahead on the scoreboard twice, but ended up conceding two goals at the end, further complicating their fight against relegation.
With a goal in the final moments of the match, Botafogo-SP secured an important 3-2 victory over Guarani, in a match postponed from the 23rd round of the Série B, held in Ribeirão Preto.

Match Details

In the first half, Botafogo-SP tried to maintain possession, while Guarani relied on counterattacks. Just 3 minutes in, Caio Dantas opened the scoring for Guarani, forcing Botafogo-SP to seek an equalizer. The home team responded with good plays but was halted by Pezollan's defense.
At the 19th minute, Alex Sandro equalized the match, taking advantage of a rebound from a shot by Victor Andrade. Despite good chances, Guarani regained the lead at the 45th minute, with Caio Dantas converting a penalty suffered by João Victor, taking the score to 2-1 at halftime.

Second Half Full of Emotion

In the second half, Botafogo-SP increased the pressure in search of the equalizer. At the 14th minute, a corner taken by Sabit almost resulted in a goal, but Matheus Salustiano's header was deflected. Guarani also had an opportunity to extend their lead with Caio Dantas, but he squandered it in front of goal.
At the 33rd minute, Emerson Ramon suffered a foul in the box committed by Marcelinho, and the referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty mark in favor of Botafogo-SP. Victor Andrade converted, leaving the score at 2-2. In stoppage time, at the 53rd minute, the winning goal came from Alexandre Jesus, after a mistake by goalkeeper Pezollan.
With this victory, Botafogo-SP reaches 35 points, climbing to 15th place, two points ahead of CRB, which now occupies the relegation zone. Guarani, on the other hand, remains at the bottom, with 25 points, and continues in a complicated situation.

Problematic Campaign

The campaign of Guarani is alarming. The team has already lost 17 matches, the same number as Ituano, another relegation candidate. In 30 rounds, Guarani has been at the bottom in 24 of them. As a result, the team from Campinas needs to rethink its strategy to avoid dropping to Série C.
The team is led by Ricardo Moisés, former president and former executive director, who took over after criticism from fans and club members regarding the inertia of the deliberative and financial council.

Upcoming Matches

In the next round, for the 31st round, Botafogo-SP faces Operário-PR on Saturday (12), at 9:30 PM, at Santa Cruz Stadium. Guarani will have a direct confrontation against CRB on Monday (14), at 9 PM, at Brinco de Ouro, in Campinas.
