Hugo Souza seems to have taken offense at Marcos Braz's provocation regarding Corinthians' costs in the match against Flamengo, in addition to the negative reaction regarding the first purchase proposal.
The Goalkeeper's Statement
After Timão's draw against Racing, the goalkeeper responded to the Flamengo director's statement about the interest from both teams in holding a friendly match to incur new fines.
“I have nothing to say. Those who have a mouth speak what they want, the Flamengo director said what he had to say, that’s part of the game. My heart, my mind, and my will are here. I hope and believe that this issue is being resolved in the best way,” he said.
“As far as I know, everything is fine, there are no problems, Corinthians is very calm regarding the contractual matter. So, I just want to keep doing my part on the field and bringing results for Corinthians, which is the most interested party,” he added.
After a 0-0 draw with Corinthians and securing a spot in the final of the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo's vice president of football, Marcos Braz, "poked" the São Paulo club regarding the controversy involving Hugo Souza.
In the post-match press conference, Braz updated the situation of Hugo and “suggested” a friendly match, which annoyed the Corinthians fans.
“First, it’s another 500 thousand reais, that’s what defines it. They need to pay a total of 1.5 million reais. So far, they haven’t presented us with documents that we consider reliable to guarantee the effective purchase of the player. We will await that moment with great tranquility. If that happens, Flamengo will continue to use 40% of the player,” said Braz.
“For you, it’s important to have a good position, a player, whether at Corinthians or anywhere else, and Hugo will certainly appreciate that. Now, we need to make it clear that this first step must be executed. Meanwhile, everything remains as is. I even think he wants to earn another 500 thousand reais with a friendly match,” he concluded.
The Value of the Loaned Player
In recent months, in the three matches between Corinthians and Flamengo, the Rubro-Negro received 1.5 million reais from Hugo Souza for the use of the loaned goalkeeper.
