Corinthians has up to five days to finalize the purchase of goalkeeper Hugo Souza from Flamengo. Although the player has expressed multiple times his desire to remain at the club, both parties have yet to reach an agreement regarding the bank guarantees of the contract.
The Flamengo rejected the bank guarantees presented by Corinthians, citing the need for a “more credible” financial institution. This was not the first attempt by Corinthians to provide guarantees, but all have been rejected. The contract stipulates the transfer fee at 800 thousand euros (approximately 4.8 million reais).
Corinthians' management insists they have fulfilled the contractual clauses and warns of the possibility of resorting to legal action to resolve the deadlock. If the agreement is not finalized by November 30, Flamengo will have the right to negotiate the sale of Hugo Souza with other clubs, which could cause Corinthians to lose their purchase priority, as well as allow the goalkeeper to transfer to another team.
Meanwhile, Hugo Souza, as the starting goalkeeper for Corinthians, has stood out with important saves both in the fight against relegation and in knockout competitions, becoming an indispensable asset in the squad. Nonetheless, Flamengo has not included the player in their plans for 2025 and views this transaction as a profit opportunity.
Internal sources reveal that Corinthians' legal department believes it will be able to sign a new contract after the loan period ends. The club is seeking a more solid financial solution and remains optimistic about resolving the deadlock. However, if it faces another rejection, Corinthians may resort to legal action, which would deepen the conflict with Flamengo.
Other clubs interested in Hugo Souza?
For “Paparazzo Rubro-Negro”, Spindel commented: “There have been contacts, inquiries, but we explained that until November 30, Corinthians has the right to exercise their purchase priority.” According to him, “the athlete who has a current contract with Corinthians, if they exercise the priority clause, will be a player of the club according to the terms defined in the contract.”
After November 30, the athlete will remain on loan until December 31, returning to Flamengo on January 1. From then on, Flamengo will have no further obligations with other clubs, and the player will also be free of commitments. He may reintegrate into the squad or consider new proposals. At Mengão, the goalkeeper's contract is valid until December 2025.
