On the night of last Wednesday, October 9, Atlético-MG and Grêmio faced off at the Arena MRV in a postponed match from the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. The Galo's triumph by 2-1 positioned the black-and-white club in ninth place, accumulating 40 points, while Grêmio remains in 11th position, with 35 points. First Half
The match started off scrappy, filled with fouls and intense battles. Hulk, in a skillful play down the left, was fouled by Jemerson for a penalty. The striker took the penalty himself, sending goalkeeper Marchesín the wrong way and putting Atlético-MG ahead.
Grêmio's response was quick, as Braithwaite found the net, but his goal was disallowed after a VAR review, which caught the striker handling the ball. Dominating the game, Grêmio managed to equalize with Aravena in the 24th minute. However, Atlético-MG quickly regained the lead with Deyverson, who scored in the 39th minute of the first half.
Second Half
In the second half, the game's dynamics didn't change much. Atlético MG Futemax, led by Hulk in the offensive actions, tried to exploit the spaces left by Grêmio, but the opponent managed to apply pressure towards the end of the match. Nevertheless, the Galo held onto the score and confirmed the victory by 2-1.
As time went on, Grêmio grew into the game, dominating possession and creating opportunities, but struggled to be incisive in attack. In the end, Atlético-MG managed to control the pressure and secured the 2-1 victory.
After the FIFA date break, Atlético-MG will return to the field next Wednesday (16) to face Fortaleza. Meanwhile, Grêmio will have to wait until October 19, when they will take on Internacional in the Gre-Nal classic in the next round.
