IOC Approves First Olympic Esports Games
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given the green light for the inaugural Esports Olympic Games, marking a new era for the organization. Thus, the first Esports Olympic Games will take place in 2025 in Saudi Arabia, after the IOC Executive Committee unanimously approved the proposal.
Event Details and Future Prospects
While specific details such as the exact date, location, and competitive events have yet to be announced, IOC President Thomas Bach praised Saudi Arabia for hosting the first Esports Olympic Games. He also expressed confidence in the successful execution of the event.
“Our Esports Commission has worked closely with the esports community, actively supporting this initiative. This further demonstrates the appeal of the Olympic brand and the values it represents among young people. Moreover, the Saudi Arabian National Olympic Committee will bring extensive esports experience to this project. This partnership is based on the Olympic Charter and the Olympic values,” stated President Bach.
With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approaching, the IOC approved the historic decision during its 142nd session. Since 2018, the IOC has been actively discussing the Olympic development of esports. Therefore, this approval represents a significant advancement in that process.
